Today I want to pay tribute to my wife Fran - a true servant of the Lord. Fran was called home to be with the Lord on Sunday morning, November 30. Her Celebration of Life service will be held on Friday, December 5 at 7:00 pm at First Assembly of God, 1400 West Washington Center Road in Fort Wayne. We have known each other for over 55 years and have enjoyed 43 plus years of married life together. Fran has been a servant all of her life. She worked in a store at the age of 16 to help support her folks. She served at various jobs in the United States and while in Germany with an excellent work record.
She served her family being a big sister to her two sisters and one brother. She served her early church family playing the pump organ during worship services on Sunday afternoons at the Pontiac, Michigan jail. She served her husband, our two children, Michael and Mary Jane, and our eight grandchildren well. She was an excellent housekeeper hating dirt and clutter. She was always on the go, making a sincere effort to bless others in need. She especially enjoyed serving many years at Love Church with her dear friend Doris Poling.
She never stopped serving, even through four years of fighting cancer with its pain. She not only served but had a true servant spirit, asking little in return. I remember seeing her sleeping on the floor holding a pail of vomit from our sick daughter. She served regardless of weather conditions or personal financial concerns. She always told me not to put her name of our weekly paycheck. I think that was her reminder of why she served. She wanted to remain freed from any financial greed. She helped her husband and her children serve the needs of others. Even on her death-bed, she was concerned that everyone would receive a Thanksgiving basket and that our needy people be adopted for Christmas.
Jesus said in Matthew 20:26: "...whoever wishes to become great among you shall be your servant." Jesus further said in Revelation 2:10: "...Be faithful until death, and I will give you the crown of life." Fran had one scripture over her dresser mirror: "Well done good and faithful servant". She has gone on to receive her crown of life from her Savior, Jesus Christ, whom she loved and served all her life. I will miss her. She will be missed greatly but not forgotten. She wasn't perfect and had her faults as we all do but her life was an example of service for each of us to joyfully follow. – Pastor PHIL |
